There would be no buses taken off the road or job losses if people who dont need bus passes because they work lose the concession, the majority are entitled to passes, remember when the concession fare went from 20 to 30p, there was no drop in passengers, if you work pay your fare.

Guru: as well as pointing out a story on the bbc or wherever, you seem to be annoyed by the fact that some drivers "can't help but see on a daily basis the abuse of this pass by holders using it to jump on 3 or 4 buses to get home or use it for one stop" (Chip is obviously on your shoulder) presumably including yourself since you posted the original messaqge. Prior to that statement you write "Whilst it's important revenue for us" again presumably meaning yourselves drivers, and the company. Without these passholders then there would probably not be as many jobs driving buses, or meaning more of you on splits.
It does not matter how many buses it takes someone to get home or to their destination, each press of the button on the ticket machine (all auto now I believe) is revenue to the company and ultimately into your paypacket. Whether I am working using a disabled pass or not, My taxes also go towards paying for the brats of drivers and others family allowance t or whatever its called these days and any other benefits drivers and their families get, why should I pay for them through my taxes. Don't use YOUR taxes as a excuse, your on a loser there.
At the end of the day is it a extra physical effort to carry a passenger if he/she produces a pass?...thought not, so whats all the fuss. Problem is nowadays people (not just bus drivers) don't want to do a job properly these days. How many times do you go into a shop to be served by a girl at the counter who has a face as long as Leith Walk and glowers at you because you had the audacity to buy something and cause her to work the till. Get a grip guys.

GURU: If Lb are not going to get money from government because they have done away with concessions what is going to be the outcopme? job losses , buses taken off the road during the day. Be honest and dont take the blinkered view of many of the numpties on this site that concession holders are a pain in the ass, outwith rush hour periods when folk are at work who is it that use buses more? concession holders innit. Each one bringing in revenue and going towards keeping buses on the road. Reduced revenue during offpeak and evenings will result in only one thing, removal of services. To Longstone Cowboy....prams arent allowed to travel on lothian buses, only buggies and they have to fold down in one piece, twin buggies must be the type that kids sit side by side and allowed on at drivers discretion depending if bus is busy and space required if folded, twin buggies that have kids sitting behind each other or undernearh one another are not allowed on, children are not allowed to lay down flat as they are not properly secured and can slide if bus stops quick in an emergency or accident, children must face the rear in a sitting position and buggie must be positioned the same way as a wheelchair, buggies that dont have brakes must be folded, any buggies that have to be dimantled are not allowd on either, it's not the muppets that are wrong it's the COWBOYS.

Imagine this, a bus that gets very full and by South Bridge is standing room only (heading from City) so the driver asks people to move up the bus - fair enough, tourists for some reason like hanging around the bottom of the stairs, anyway next stop Surgeons Hall and again the driver asks passengers to move up the bus - Problem, there is no space further up the bus, it is full but the driver doesn't seem to comprehend this and starts shouting for passengers to move up the bus. Passengers "there is no room, the bus is full", driver "no it's not I can see space", passengers "well get out your cab and show us where", driver "people are wanting on bus", passengers "where are they going to go", driver "please just move up the bus", passengers "this bus is already jammed full and probably overloaded", driver "long pause" doors shut and bus pulls away. Surely drivers have the sense to determine when a bus is full, the capacity notices are there for everyone to see!!! If it was last!

I also think those giving out such over the top punishment measures should be made accountable for. If taxi drivers claim they know every street in Edinburgh how come they don't know where left or right turns are prohibited and can't seem to understand the correct lane to be in.
As for speed limits well....
Why don't we start a name and shame campaign. If you see a taxi commit an offence, note his number, place and time and post here. I'm sure we won't be short of comments

Does anyone believe that the punishment given out to drivers for misdemeanours is fair and correct, or do they recieve harsh punishment for silly things which could be resolved by having a quiet verbal word in the ear and sent on their way.Final written warnings seem to be the order of the day which laterley would have incured a verbal reprimand with a dont do it again.This seems to be coming at a time where we are short of staff and is a major resentment amongst workers who feel it is lowering moral and personal esteem.I'm not trying to exhonourate someone who has not towed the line but trying to highlight line managers who seem to be stessed to the eyeballs and sacking drivers left right and centre.Laterly our leaders reiterated a commitment to fair treatment for all employees put cant help but wondering are we sinking back in to a bully boy style of management.
